Happy 9th Birthday to our K-Doodle!

We are having fun here at the Pappa house celebrating K-Doodles Birthday!
She had a very fun birthday celebration this past weekend which we will tell you about soon.
Until then....Here are nine facts we just love about our K-Doodle!

1.  K-Doodle is such a happy girl!  She wakes up early with a smile everyday.  She is an early bird.
2.  K-Doodle is very artsy.  We call her "Doodle" because she started doodling at age 1 and never stopped!  She draws, doodles and creates....ALL THE TIME!
3.  K-Doodle is the youngest in the family.  The end.  The caboose.  Our "baby".  We just love that about her.
4.  K-Doodle is very compassionate.  She cares about other people and is such a kind girl.
5.  K-Doodle has a ginormous sweet tooth!  (just like her momma)
6.  K-Doodle plays the piano and the recorder and loves to sing.  You can find her singing to herself in the car often.  I especially love to hear this when it is just a K-Doodle and Mom day.  It makes me smile.  Big.
7.  K-Doodle wants an I-Touch really bad.  She is saving every nickel so that she can buy one herself.  Wish her luck!
8.  K-Doodle was born on a snowy day in Illinois.  It was VERY cold.  In the teens that day.  She has warmed our heart ever since.
9.  K-Doodle has the cutest, silliest giggle in our family.  We love to tickle her, just to hear it.

So K-Doodle Bug - Happy Birthday - We love you so much!

Sew What ?!?

The girls have had a marvelous opportunity to take a sewing class over the last few weeks from an older homeschool girl in the area we are about to move to.  I signed the girls up thinking that they would be able to meet some other homeschooling girls in the town we are about to move to.  This would make the hour and twenty minute drive (one-way) worth it.  Well, there is only one other girl, but WOW!.....what a fantastic instructor this 17 year old is!  What a blessing for my girls...cause.....Momma can't sew!
K-Doodle in action!

C-Sunshine sewing along.....

K-Doodle did marvelous!  At 8 years old, she was sewing like a 12 year old!  So independent is she!

K-Doodles complete her apron, but C-Sunshine's had a little more detail and she didn't quite finish.  I will post a picture of their projects next week after their final lesson.  They had a lot of fun in this class.

And you know, driving there each week has made the area become very familiar.  Comfortable.
Like a shoe that you are breaking in.

I think we are going to be okay..........

K-Doodle is turning Eight today!

Eight years ago, on a snowy day in Illinois, I had the privilege of giving birth to a beautiful baby girl.  We named her K-Doodle and our lives have been forever changed.  Another heartstring attached for life.

K-Doodle is sensitive, giving, hilarious and such a loving little girl.  Happy Birthday baby girl.  We love you!

They are in Love......

with Buster! On Saturday morning, my friend Robin meet us at her stables and gave the girls an introduction to horses and then took them for a ride. Her horse's name is Buster and he is a 14 year old quarter horse and quite the gentleman. He stands about 14.2 hands. Both C-Sunshine and K-Doodle rode him around the ring, but C-Sunshine actually got to ride him alone, holding the reins and guiding him on her own. Of course, Robin was not too far away.

C-Sunshine has joined the Horse and Pony club this year with our local 4H club. So she is excited about learning more about horses. She LOVES horses and has them all over her room. She reads about horses, fiction and none. I am glad that she is getting the opportunity to be around them, learn to ride and experience life with a horse. I always loved horses too, but never got the opportunity to learn to ride or be around them first hand. One of the joys of learning at home. We get to cater to the child!

K-Doodleehad no fear whatsoever. Both girls were very comfortable around Buster and had a great time. Thanks Robin!

In the quietness....

It's quiet here today. There is no giggling, laughing or reading out loud. No pidder padder of little feets down the hall. No one screaming "Mom!" down the stairs. The little girlies are at their grandparents at the lake having fun with cousins. It is too quiet here. I miss them but have lots to do. I will not complain about the noise when they return. Atleast not for awhile.......

Spring Art Show

This past year, the girls participated in our town's Young Artists program. It is a wonderful class. They meet each week for two hours and have learned so much and created some wonderful pieces of art. This past Sunday was their Spring Art Show. I thought I would share their work as an online Art Show. Hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

I hope you enjoyed our little Virtual Art Show. Both girls just LOVE art and their art teacher Miss Terri. We plan to keep this as part of our learning next year. Until next time.....

Caterpillar in a Hurry

Brown and furry
Caterpillar in a hurry,
Take your walk
To the shady leaf, or stalk,
Or what not,
Which may be the chosen spot.
No toad spy you,
Hovering bird of prey pass by you;
Spin and die,
To live again a butterfly.
- Christina G. Rossetti 1893

Meet Herbie. K-Doodle decided to keep a caterpillar that she found outside for a day or two. I agreed. He was eating like crazy, then...he started building his cocoon. Now, unfortunately, he has built it in our little bug carrier. We are going to have to keep him with us as we travel to make sure it makes it through and release him when we are able. Next time I think I will suggest we just love him and leave him alone....

I Guess So....

Tonight K-Doodle asked if she and I could have ice cream cones and watch a movie when we got home from taking C-Sunshine to a friend’s house. “Sure thing”, I said. We stopped to get ice cream cones at the grocery store on the way home. After getting in the car, she asked “Can I eat an ice cream cone now?” “I guess so….” I said. “What does that mean, I guess so?” was her response. She had a confused look on her face. I told her that it meant yes. But it actually meant, no, but you can anyway. How many times I have used the expression. I guess so. We should not be guessing. We should not be giving permission, but attaching guilt to doing it. We should be giving direct decisive answers. Yes or no. Keep it simple. K-Doodle gets that.

Will birdseed grow Mommy?

Today K-Doodle asked if she planted birdseed, would it grow? I had to tell her that I wasn't sure. I don't really know what kind of seed this particular bag is. So, she asked if she could try and see. First she found an old pizza box to use as her "pot". Then she borrowed some of her Daddy's potting soil and put it in the bottom of the pizza box.
Next she poked hole with her finger (or you can make lines) and put the seeds in the holes or lines.
We moved the pizza box to a sunny spot in the back yard.
Then K-Doodle put water on them by using a small shovel so that it wouldn't flood them.
We will now watch and wait and see what happens. Then we will know the answer. Will birdseed grow if you plant it?

K-Doodle Turns Six!

Today our little K-Doodle turned six years old! She had a fun day with the family at home and then went on a surprise trip to Medieval Times in Atlanta. The whole family went, including Nanny and Grandaddy! Both K-Doodle and C-Sunshine really got into the battle of the Knights. We were rooting for the Red Knight, but unfortunately he was defeated in battle. It was fun seeing the Knights after our study of Medieval History last year. K-Doodle's Big sister Amber was here to share in the fun.
